Milk Makeup Gel Brow Review

The short.

The long.

Ever since Anastasia's Dipbrow Pomade was released a few years ago, cosmetics companies far and wide have had a fire lit under their asses to produce innovative products that dare compete with the now cult favorite. In this latest edition of "How on Earth Can We Compete?", Milk Makeup has released a gel-in-a-stick brow product, appropriately named Gel Brow. It comes in three decently universal shades and retails for $18. On Milk Makeup's website, it claims to be waterproof, smudge-proof, and matte. Sephora.com goes a step further and claims it has 10 hour wear.

Like many higher-end brow pencils, it comes with the pencil on one end and a spoolie on the other. Keeping with the brand's emphasis on practicality, the caps are clear so you can easily tell which side is which. Both the NYX Micro Brow and Anastasia Brow Wiz, which I do love, do not make a big enough distinction between sides and it feel like I'm always reaching for the wrong end when I'm in a hurry. The pencil itself is white, which looks really cool when you first purchase it, but it looks less neat over time.

I have the color "Dark Brew", which is described as a "dark brown". I would call this more of a soft black. I'm pretty picky about only using black colors for my brows, and this definitely passes my color test. As for performance, the claims hold true for the most part, however, it does take a bit of time to actually set. The product is pretty soft, and because of that the pencil dulls quickly. I find it slightly harder to create the really sharp look I can get with my holy grail NYX Micro Pencil. The softness of the product allows it to really spread out pretty far when I use the spoolie, but if I get a little too excited with the brushing things can get a little messy and less precise.

But it's important to remember that that's not what Milk Makeup is about. They're about fast, easy to use, one-and-done products, not about precision and perfect lines. So with that understanding, I would recommend this product, I would just also recommend you have your sharpener handy.
