I'm actually not a huge shopper (outside of my makeup addiction) but every few months I'll spend some time picking out a few seasonal items. I recently placed on online order from my favorite department store Nordstrom. Below are a few of the summer essentials I picked up.
Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette Beauty Glow | $75
This is supposed to be an all-in-one palette from which the user can create countless look for both day and night. It's fucking gorgeous, it really is. I even created a full look with it that I'll be posting in the next few weeks. The thing is, the bronzer is the exact same color as my skin (big surprise...). I'm not sure if I can justify keeping it.
Lanolips Tinted Balm in Nude | $14
For what this is, it's definitely reasonably priced. I'm a lip balm addict and appreciate having a full and diverse collection. This tinted balm leaves a neutral nude tint to my lips and is super thick, but soft, almost pillowy. If you're vegan, this won't work from you - the main ingredient Lanolin is animal derived.
Canvas Jewelry Wrapped Hoop Earrings | $18
I have a general rotation of only one ring, two necklaces, but dozens of earrings. I rarely place an online order without throwing in a pair. I chose this one specifically because one of the running themes in both my jewelry and my clothing is mixed materials, so this two-toned pair fits in nicely.
Madewell Cotton V-Neck Pocket Tee in Gentle Blush | $20
I now own four of these shirts in multiple colors, and believe me, I'll be picking one up in every color before the end of the summer. I love the way the XS size fits me - the way it skims rather than hugs my
problem area stomach, how the V-neck reveals just enough, and how the hem falls at the perfect place on my hips.
Dolce Vita Jaz Sandal in Copper | $70
When I took these out of the box, my immediate instinct was to return them. They're pretty flimsy and offer little support; I didn't think they were worth the hefty price tag. But after trying them on a few times in my apartment I realized that they go with pretty much everything I wear. The "value" of a wardrobe item for me is less about quality and more about versatility and usage.
Fresh Umbrian Clay Purifying Facial Toner | $35
I have combination-oily skin and in the summer I get pretty greasy. (Not sure if it's actually oil or just some good 'ol Atlanta sweat.) I picked this up because (a) I needed a new toner and (b) I wanted some kind of day treatment that would help control my oily T-Zone.
Voluspa Laguna Home & Body Mist, $19
The website describes the scent as "filled with the aquatic, fresh notes of the velvet sands of Laguna Beach, California and coastal blooms mixed with sea salt and shore breeze." They didn't mention obnoxious undertones of potpourri. I returned it.
51mm Thin Brow Angular Aviator Sunglasses | $12
$12 sunglasses that look like, maybe... $20 sunglasses? BP makes great disposal accessories, and their sunglasses are a personal staple of mine. I could buy ten pairs for the price of Ray-Bans, and although I do own and love Ray-Bans, I like to keep inexpensive pairs in my car and purses, while bringing out the expensive ones only when I know that I'll actually use them.
bkr 16-ounce Gloss Water Bottle | $35
I didn't order this in the original online order, but picked it up as an impulse buy when I was in-store. It's beautiful, but when I brought it to the cash register and was told my total was $38 and some change, I almost had a heart attack. My boyfriend then accidentally threw away the cap and I'm waiting on a replacement... so I included this pic taken from howyouglow.com.
